SEASON’S READINGS FROM MARTHA MERRELL'S!

Norm and Eve along with our talented staff (book club facilitators Betty & Nancy and website manager Dave) wish each of our customers a holiday season that is filled with memorable moments with family and friends, good health and of course, some deeply satisfying reading experiences! We hope you visited us in November during the Holiday Stroll that precedes the Christmas parade each year. It was a pleasure to have a number of new authors join us for AUTHOR MANIA; autographed copies of their books are available for your enjoyment.

We look forward to helping you find that special gift for a friend or family member. Stop in to see new items that are available only during the holiday season. Calendars, CDs, Laini’s Ladies, culinary gifts, seasonal dishware, holiday cards and selected children’s items (a new line of puzzles as well as activity kits) are just some of the gift ideas that we offer ... in addition to a wide range of reading material. And yes, journals have returned to Martha Merrell’s, including some that are just plain gorgeous to look at (even if you don’t feel like writing in them)!

This year our customers have the added advantage of choosing from the many fine gifts that are available at Cuddles as well. They have jewelry (Halia charms are especially popular), Willow Tree figurines and thousands of plush animals year-round in addition to a wide array of holiday items to delight you and those on your holiday gift list.

As usual, there are a number of holiday events in Downtown Waukesha during December. Our popular Breakfast with Santa still has available spaces if you haven’t registered yet. We had our first one during Thanksgiving weekend and look forward to the remaining dates: the first three Saturdays in December: 5th, 12th and 19th. Each morning provides a special kick-off to the Christmas holiday. VISIT OUR PHOTO GALLERY to see previous year’s events. This is our sixth year of working with Rochester Deli to provide a unique experience that includes a delicious breakfast, seasonal music by Mike Gallenberger, stories by David Oreshack, craft activities and the chance to chat with the famous red-suited man himself: Santa. Reservations are required; the cost is $15 per person.

This year Santa makes a return visit on each Saturday afternoon from 1-3 PM. Cuddles has Elfina available to take holiday photos with Santa. You are also welcome to bring your own camera to capture some memories of the Christmas season.

New this year, the Silver Bells merchants are providing horse-drawn carriage rides on Saturday afternoons from 1-5 PM. We are one of the ticket locations on the route that makes several stops in the downtown.

Martha Merrell’s continues its support of the Christmas Clearing Council’s efforts to insure that each child in our community has a merry holiday. You can drop off toys and gifts here as well as purchase a copy of their commemorative book The Joy of Sharing. It highlights their 60-year history of service here in Waukesha and costs $20. We are teaming with the Harry Potter Club from Carroll University for an evening of relaxation and fun for students that will also benefit the Christmas Clearing Council.

In the mood for some great live music? Friday Night Fever brings music to Downtown Waukesha at both Martha Merrell’s and The Steaming Cup on Friday nights from 6:30-8:30 PM each week. We are featuring lots of holiday music during the month of December; audience participation is definitely encouraged. Mike and Kathy Gallenberger and Theiss & O’Connor are sure to get you in the holiday mood or provide a respite during this hectic season.

Be sure to stop in during these events as well:

  • Saturday, December 5th - HOLIDAY “HIGH LIGHTS” ART CRAWL, 4-10 PM
  • Saturday, December 12th - WAUKESHA SANTAS/Fox 6 CHARITY 4K RUN/WALK
  • Friday, Saturday & Sunday, December 11-13 - SECRET SANTA SHOPPING

MERRY CHRISTMAS to each of you! Thank you for making MARTHA MERRELL's the #1 bookstore in the Milwaukee area on WISN’s A-LIST this year......and thank you for brightening our day each time you choose to visit our store in support of a local business that tries to make a positive difference in the Waukesha community.
